Prof. Muthama, Deputy Director, Wangari Maathai Institute, participated in Kenya Short-Lived Climate Pollutants (SLCP) Project Webinar on 30th July 2020 as Speaker and Panelist.
The live online conference, titled “Climatological, Meteorological and Environmental factors in the COVID-19 Pandemic conference” will be held 4-6 August 2020, 900-1200 EDT/1300-1600 GMT or 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM local time. There are participants from six continents attending this meeting.
The Gandhi Smarak Nidhi fund (GSNF) will offer a limited number of partial scholarships tenable at the University of Nairobi, for Masters Programmes during the 2020/2021 academic year.

A non-refundable application fee of Kenya Shillings Two Thousand Only (KShs. 2,000.00) will be charged to be paid through MPESA services.
University of Nairobi is offering 137 masters scholarships for the 2020/2021 academic year. The
applications are open only to applicants for the September 2020 intake.
Eligible applicants must meet the following criteria among other specific criteria by their respective
units.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Stephen Kiama, on Friday 26th June, 2020, accompanied by the Head of Mission at the Embassy of Portugal in Kenya, Ms. Luisa Fragoso, visited the Institute. Accompanying the VC was the Principal, CAVS and Principal, CHSS. The aim of the visit was to show Ms. Fragoso the space and facilities which are available at the WMI for learning and research.
Prof. Stephen Kiama Gitahi was officially installed as the 8th Vice Chancellor of the University of Nairobi (UoN) on June 5, 2020 at a ceremony presided over by Dr. Vijoo Rattansi, Chancellor UoN. Prof. Kiama has a deep critical thinking and clear vision about individuals and institutions. With this rare gift, he has had a clear vision about what he always wanted to be, what he desired of others and where he wanted the university of Nairobi to be.
The Institute in collaboration with the Green Belt Movement hosted a webinar on April 16, 2020 from 3pm. This was in light of the Earth Day 2020 which will be commemorated on April 22, 2020. Prof. David Mungai, Director, WMI led a team of speakers which included Marion Kamau, Chairperson, Green Belt Movement, Mr. Matthew Lefler, Manager, Earth Day Africa at Earth Day Network, Washington DC and Ms.
In light of the Earth Day 2020 (April 22nd 2020), you are invited to a webinar organised by the Wangari Maathai Institute in collaboration with the Green Belt Movement, on Citizen Action Towards Securing Our Future.
The webinar will be held on Thursday 16th April, 2020 3:00PM-5:00PM.
At the African Union Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in February 2012, it was decided that organizations should recognize Prof. Wangari Maathai’s immense contribution to environmental awareness in Africa. As a result, Wangari Maathai Day was endorsed to be celebrated on the same day as the African Environment Day, on every 3rd of March.
The High Scool students workshop will be held on Friday, March 20, 2020 from 9 am to 4 pm at the Wangari Maathai Institute Campus under the theme "The Role of Students in Peace and Environment Management in Kenya". Speakers will be drawn from the University and practitioners. The event is planned for a maximum of 500 students, admission is therefore on first come first served basis. Students are encouraged to bring along packed lunch.
Registration fee: Kshs. 2500 per school. Please confirm attendance by March 17, 2020.
