WMI welcomes four Interns under the Government Internship Programme

The Wangari Maathai Institute (WMI) welcomed four new interns on February 08, 2021. The interns are part of the Public Service Internship Programme, a government initiative aimed at offering graduates the opportunity to develop professional skills and gain work experience in the public service. During the first orientation meeting, Prof. David Mungai, Director, WMI introduced the interns to the Institute’s core functions.

University of Nairobi Responds to Government Programme to Raise Forest Cover in Kenya to at Least 10%

The tree planting exercise was in response to a request by the Ministry of Education to set aside 10% of the University land for afforestation. The University Management tasked the College of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences to lead this noble initiative.

Prof Gideon Nyamasyo Donates Books to the Wangari Maathai Institute Library

Prof. Nyamasyo today donated several books with different environmental themes to the Institute’s library. He retired in June 2020 from the School of Biological Sciences, University of Nairobi. Prof. Nyamasyo has been lecturing at the Wangari Maathai Institute (WMI) since 2013. He taught Integrated Natural Resource Management and Integrated Environmental Management to our M.Sc. and PhD students, respectively. He also supervised several WMI Masters and PhD students since 2013.

University of Nairobi is offering 137 masters scholarships for the 2020/2021 academic year. The
applications are open only to applicants for the September 2020 intake.
