Peaceful co-existence before and after the elections is definitely the desire of all including the old, youth and the young. We all have the responsibility to advocate for and promote peace that is much needed to spearhead our socio-economic activities ahead, safeguard our livelihoods, our natural resources, what we have spend many years building, our today, tomorrow and the future. The ATAT (All Tribes Against Tribalism) Peace Walk is an initiative by the Tribes Summit Secretariat as a follow up of the Tribes Summit 2017 which was co-hosted by the Wangari Maathai Institute for Peace and Environmental Studies. Peace is one of the key pillars entrenched in the vision and mission of the Institute. The Institute was pleased to have participated in this noble initiative that attracted the participation of about 90% of the youth demonstrating the desire of all and more so of the youth for peace.
It was an honor to have Prof. S.G. Kiama, Principal, College of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences, represent the University, give his remarks on the importance of peace. He urged all to be peace ambassadors and flagged off the Peace walk on July 1, 2017 at the Upper Kabete Campus. Prof. Henry M. Mutembei, Director, Wangari Maathai Institute represented the Institute in this important peace activity. Other participants included the students and the general public. Let’s all do our little thing to advocate for and endorse the peace that we all need!
